Resources for Recovery from Alcohol
By Adrienne Kaliszak
There’s more than one way to find the freedom you’re searching for
Deciding you want to take some steps to remove alcohol from your life can be met with fear, uncertainty, and confusion. I hope by providing a list of resources for you, some of those unsure and shaky feelings will disappear and give you some insight of the many choices available to you to get you started on your journey.
- Be Sober—Simon Chapple
This is a program I can’t say enough about. I have been involved in the Be Sober community for the last 15 months and this program was a definite game changer for me. Simon provides the community with live Zooms run by himself as well as other sobriety coaches and long term members of the community. The Zooms run once to twice a day and on top of the Zooms there are also Live QA’s that are great. Besides the Zooms and QA’s there’s an entire video program you get to work through at your own pace, plus two great Facebook groups, one for paid members the other is free. The paid members community is a smaller tight knit community all working at getting and/or keeping their sobriety. The free community is larger but still with amazing people shooting for similar goals.
- Alcoholics Anonymous
Here is a description of AA quoted from their official website.
“Alcoholics Anonymous is an international fellowship of men and women who have had a drinking problem. It is nonprofessional, self-supporting, multiracial, apolitical, and available almost everywhere. There are no age or education requirements. Membership is open to anyone who wants to do something about his or her drinking problem.”
My own experience with Alcoholics Anonymous was a good one. The people there were very welcoming and supportive. I never completed the steps but going to the meetings was enjoyable, I felt like I could share without judgement plus I loved the spiritual aspect of AA. For some this can be a turn off but for me it worked. I still pop in from time to time.
There is a forum called In The Rooms that offers online AA meetings, if you’d rather not go to the traditional in person AA meetings.
- This Naked Mind—Annie Grace
This Naked Mind takes a science based and psychological based approach to quitting alcohol. You will look inside yourself and explore the reasons why you drink and deconstruct the false beliefs you may have around alcohol. It is very hands-on and individual centered. Annie offers tons of programs and subprograms to her community plus many books of hers are available so you can dig deep and really get into it. Highly recommend Annie Grace’s programs, so many lives have been changed and freed as a result of following This Naked Mind programs.
- The Luckiest Club—Laura Mc Cowen
Offers live Zoom support meetings all day long. It’s a great place to get support and connect with like minded people, whose goal is to stay sober or get sober. Besides the Zooms there are many forums at TLC where you can chat and get support.
- Soberistas—Lucy Rocca
Soberistas by Lucy Rocca is an amazing community for women to receive and give support. Lucy offers a chat forum, subforums, a space to blog and another spot to journal. There are also live Zooms on a wide variety of topics. The people are friendly, kind, and supportive. Definitely recommend to women who are looking for a supportive alcohol free community.
