Becoming Who We are Meant to Be by Becoming Alcohol Free
By Adrienne Kaliszak
If you struggle with alcohol use disorder or any other form of addiction, then you are not the person you were intended to be.
You were not created to be addicted to any substance at all.
When we are born into this world we have no attachments to substances, unless our mother used drugs or alcohol while we were in her womb.
Otherwise, all we needed was unconditional love, nourishment, connection, and someone to keep us safe and protected.
We still need those things, but we do not need drugs or alcohol.
You may think you need your addiction of choice to survive. That addiction screams to you that you do. But in reality, you don’t.
Yes, you may need to be weaned off of that substance or given another medication to combat the dangerous withdrawals from it.
But the reality is we were meant to be free.
Free of addiction, free from the harm and damaging effects alcohol and drugs create in our mind, body, spirit, and soul.
Free from the damage our addictions create in our love life, workplaces, community, and relationships.
We were meant to be able to live a life where we weren’t constantly focused on getting our next fix or high.
We were meant to have love at the center of our lives. Love not only for ourselves but for our creator and neighbours/community as well.
I know that some people seemingly can drink or party on the rare occasion and appear to not suffer any consequences from this. But the more you use a substance the more you increase the odds it will become an addiction.
For me I know if I have just one drink, drug, or cigarette, I’ll be back in full-blown addiction almost immediately. So, I won’t even chance it anymore.
I feel as though I sound like a preacher and unhip square, truth is I’ve been there, I partied with the best of them, and now I know through years of trial and error, that the greatest thing I can do for myself and those I love is to leave those substances behind me.
You CAN too if you choose too.
Seek out help, support, and community.
