The National Cancer Institute has discovered that even those who only have one drink per day and those who binge drink (4–5 drinks per sitting) have an increased risk of cancer. This risk increases the more you drink and if you smoke cigarettes along with alcohol consumption.
The types of cancer caused by alcohol include:
Head and neck cancer
Breast cancer
Colorectal cancer
Liver Cancer
Esophageal cancer
How does alcohol cause cancer?
Alcohol also known as ethanol is broken down in the body and turned into a carcinogen known as acetaldehyde which can damage DNA as well as proteins.
Evidence shows that the more you drink the higher risk you are to developing cancer as a result of drinking and drinking along with smoking increases your chances of developing head and neck cancers as well as cancer of the esophagus or esophageal cancer — Search (bing.com).
It doesn’t matter if you drink beer, wine, or hard liquor. All 3 of these have the potential to increase your odds of developing cancer.
There is an increased risk of esophageal or breast cancer with less than 12 oz a day of beer, 5 oz of wine per day, or a 1.5 oz shot of liquor.
What Now?
If you are concerned about your drinking and cancer risk your best bet would be complete abstinence, however, any decrease in your alcohol consumption will be helpful.

'Your windshield is bigger than your rearview for a reason; the mirror is there to help you glance back at where you’ve been, but if you focus too much on it, you’re going to crash.
We are ALL affected by our past and we are ALL reminded of it now and again, but we cannot live in it unless we want to repeat it over and over again. We need to learn from it, take lessons from it, know what’s good (and not good) for us, and adjust accordingly. Mistakes are only mistakes until we learn from them and then they become lessons.'
Love this from the Your Tango blog, it sums up the need for a forward focused growth mindset in sobriety and life in general.
Having an amazing time in #Japan and managed to head south out of Tokyo for a few days today to Kamakura by the ocean.
The drinking culture here is totally different to the UK, but all the bars are full, not many AF options either, but I wouldn’t want to visit such an amazing place and spoil it by boozing.
These two inspiring books from leading sobriety coach Simon Chapple are out today!
