How To Stay Sober – 5 Tips to Stay Sober Long Term
So you’ve gotten sober. Hooray! Now how do you keep that new found sobriety?
Here’s a list of 5 tips that helped me along my alcohol free journey.

Develop a sobriety routine
Incorporating sobriety practices into your daily routine is crucial to keeping your sobriety for the long term. A sober routine can include journaling, meditation, exercise, reading books on sobriety and connecting with other sober individuals.

Keep all alcohol out of the house
For me it was so important to keep any and all alcohol out of my home. It was way too easy if I was having a bad moment or craving, to reach for that poison. If there’s none in the house you remove that temptation and will have to put forth a little thought and effort into it if you choose to drink. That may give you enough time to reach out to someone or figure out something else you can do.

Create a sober toolbox
A sober toolbox is a set of “tools” that you’ll use to keep your sobriety. This can include having a sober community you belong to. People you can reach out to by phone, text, in person, online. It can include a list of activities you will do instead of drink, such as: journaling, drawing, running, walking, taking a bath, reading, watching a movie. The list is endless and it’s up to you what tools you put in it. Just be sure to use them.

Practice Mindfulness
Slow down and start to become aware of your thoughts before they become actions. By doing this it can prevent you from picking up that first drink. This may be difficult at first but with practice and patience it will become second nature.

One Day At A Time
As cliche as this may sound “One Day at a Time” really does work. Just focus on the day ahead of you and making it through the day without a drink. Make getting through the day sober your main priority and some days if that’s all you do that is more than enough.
One more tip before I sign off. Be proud of yourself! This is not always an easy journey, it is always worth it, but not always easy. So take pride in the fact you are doing something so incredible and life-changing and give yourself a pat on the back. I’m PROUD Of YOU!!!!!
