When you quit drinking alcohol it is vital to ensure you have the right tools around you in order to ensure you remain focused and immersed in your ongoing learning and growth.

Sobriety Podcasts are an awesome way to feel connected and engaged at the same time as helping with your own self-development. Podcasts can also be a welcome distraction and a way of feeling connected to the sober community simply by popping your headphones in.

At the time I stopped drinking alcohol I needed as many books, blogs and tools available to me as possible. I had worked on understanding the best techniques for becoming sober, my mindset was beginning to change and I felt really excited about stepping forward into an alcohol-free life, however there were still nerves and anxiety that I might fail or struggle with discomfort and cravings.

Sobriety podcasts made me realise that I wasn’t alone on my sober journey, as I listened to some of my favourites I felt really connected to the presenters and their personal stories, tips and strategies for successfully quitting alcohol.

Recommended Article – 5 Minute Read, The Best Books for Stopping Drinking

I made sure that I had a toolbox full of tactics to use at the times when the going got tough and I continued listening to some brilliant recovery podcasts that on an almost daily basis, they were a huge help. There were many occasions when I had a craving to drink and took a long walk, or went to the gym for a vigorous workout while listening to one of the many brilliant sobriety podcasts.

The amazing people who present and run the sobriety podcasts give up their time to help others and I want to take a moment to thank them for all they do with their selfless approach to giving back to other people on the same journey who need help.

'Your windshield is bigger than your rearview for a reason; the mirror is there to help you glance back at where you’ve been, but if you focus too much on it, you’re going to crash.

We are ALL affected by our past and we are ALL reminded of it now and again, but we cannot live in it unless we want to repeat it over and over again. We need to learn from it, take lessons from it, know what’s good (and not good) for us, and adjust accordingly. Mistakes are only mistakes until we learn from them and then they become lessons.'

Follow SoberDave on Instagram Here

About This Sobriety Podcast – SoberDave has become a bit of an Instagram sensation in 2021, he has amassed over 30,000 followers at the time of writing. His popularity comes through his relatability, people seem able to easily connect with him and many can see their own struggles in his powerful story of a man who was a heavy drinker and on the verge of destroying his life to someone who managed to become sober and turn everything around. He speaks openly about the rock bottom moments in his life and I recommend listening to his podcast so you can hear exactly how bad things can get when alcohol takes control.

SoberDave has some brilliant guests on his One For The Road podcast and he isn’t afraid to confront challenging topics, I was honoured to appear on the podcast recently and spoke about my childhood trauma and how it played a part in my addictive behaviour as an adult.

The Honestly podcast is a refreshing look at topics that sometimes make us feel a bit awkward. I think it is sensible to have a mixture of podcasts on different topics, rather than only listening to sobriety episodes constantly and the Honestly podcast is the perfect companion for this. Subjects cover everything from salaries, equality and sex through to conversations with guests around food, divorce, parenting and ageing, you name it, Clemmie has probably covered it at some point. The Honestly podcasts provides a breath of fresh air and I love listening to the latest episodes.

Recently added, more of the Best Sober Podcasts in 2021 – Listen to these podcasts to stop drinking in 2021

2020 has been a fantastic year for the sober movement, with individual authors and content creators gaining traction in their own right. There is now, more than ever excellent and extensive support available online. With numerous free resources available out there for anyone who is sober curious, or anyone wanting help with completely removing alcohol from their lives. 2021 can be your year of change.

I’ll put my hands up and say that I am a lover of traditional books. However, there isn’t always time in the day to sit down and settle into reading and taking in the information being presented. This is why I also love podcasts! Above, you will be able to view my reviews and thoughts on the best podcasts and sobriety podcasters available for 2020. I also want to expand on this and look at the best sober podcasts in 2021, which really can help you with starting or remaining on your sobriety journey.

Here are more top picks for sobriety podcasts to listen to help stop drinking in 2021

Keepin’ It Friel – Conversations in Recovery

Listen to the Podcast Here

Follow Courtney Friel on Instagram Here

For those that don’t know, Courtney Friel is a News Anchor in the States for KTLA News. She is also 11 years sober. I love that she uses her position to help bring light to sobriety and her podcasts are normally between her, celebrities and media personalities, where she has open and honest conversations with them about their sobriety.

I have found Courtney’s podcasts to be excellent to listen to on a walk or when relaxing at home for light-hearted conversation. However, they also provide an in-depth look into the lives of famous people who struggle with addiction and what they have done, or are doing to transform their lives.

Sober During Crisis

Listen to the Podcast Here

Follow Ang Buxton on Instagram Here

New to my list is the excellent podcasts from Ang Buxton. A comedian who is in recovery and focuses her content on sobriety and Covid-19. I really like her relaxed approach to each podcast I have listened to. They have a conversational nature with featured stories and interviews around the sobriety journey, whilst dealing with the impact of Covid-19. I would highly recommend you checking out her podcasts.

With some excellent reviews so far from other listeners, I would predict that she will gain some fantastic exposure for her content over 2021.

Busy Living Sober

Listen to the Podcast Here

Follow Elizabeth Chance on Instagram Here

Having been in recovery for over a decade, Elizabeth Chance has created her own fantastic series of podcasts with new episodes every week. Her message behind her content is being able to live a sober lifestyle, whilst not having to sacrifice the fun and enjoyment of everyday life. She doesn’t just focus on the individual, but also on the wider family, friends and co-worker networks which I really enjoy. She has been one of my go-to listens every week for 2020 and I will continue to do so for 2021, as the content is new and engaging on every podcast.

Club Soda PodcastClub Soda Podcast

Listen to the Podcast Here

Follow Club Soda on Instagram Here

I have mentioned about the Club Soda Podcasts above, but I had to give them another mention as they continue to release excellent content on a monthly basis. I previously predicted that their podcasts, hosted by Laura Willoughby will become one of the most popular amongst the sober and sober-curious community and they are smashing this prediction with their audio and ‘Quit Lit’.

One of my favourite podcasts each month, I am sure they will continue to be so throughout 2021. If you haven’t listened to their content yet, then I highly recommend that you do if you are interested about learning tips and techniques on socialising sober, through to alcohol-free drinks and smashing sobriety. They do some fantastic work at highlighting alcoholism and help with sobriety, or providing valuable information for anyone who is sober curious.

Love Over Addiction

Listen to the Podcast Here

Follow Love Over Addiction on Instagram Here

The podcasts from Love Over Addiction are a really interesting take, focusing on partners and family members who love someone who has an addiction. For me, it was really impactful to listen to these podcasts to understand better what the people I care about have experienced from living with me as an addict to wine.

Michelle Anderson has received some fantastic reviews for her weekly podcasts and for good reason. I recommend you having a listen to her whether you are trying to cope with a partner who has an addiction, or you are the addict, to understand what the people you care about are going through, so you can see it from the other side.

Sober Speak – Alcoholics Anonymous 12 Step Recovery Podcast

Listen to the Podcast Here

Follow Sober Speak on Instagram Here

If you are a member of my Facebook Community, you will likely know that there are mixed reviews on Alcoholics Anonymous. Some people absolutely love it and have found a real benefit from joining AA, whilst others are not so keen on the underlying Christian message behind the recovery process.

You may not be aware that Sober Speak is a weekly podcast series on AA. The episodes are centred around experiences of AA members and their 12-step recovery process. I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone interested in AA and understanding about recovery. It may not be for everyone, but I always advocate an open mind and you will be able to pick up some fantastic advice and tips on sobriety even if you are not religious.

The truth is, that the above is a snapshot of the podcasts that are available which focus on sober curiosity and sobriety. I hope what you can gather from this is that there are so many resources available to anyone looking for support in audio format from people who have been on the sobriety journey themselves. Podcasts are fantastic for listening to whilst on the move or whether reading is not your thing.

Do you feel like I have missed any podcast or podcast creator in particular? If so, then please share your favourite sobriety podcasts in the comments. I would love to hear them and check them out. I would also love to hear from you if you have listened to any of the above podcasts and what your views on them are.
