When you quit drinking alcohol it is vital to ensure you have the right tools around you in order to ensure you remain focused and immersed in your ongoing learning and growth.
Sobriety Podcasts are an awesome way to feel connected and engaged at the same time as helping with your own self-development. Podcasts can also be a welcome distraction and a way of feeling connected to the sober community simply by popping your headphones in.
At the time I stopped drinking alcohol I needed as many books, blogs and tools available to me as possible. I had worked on understanding the best techniques for becoming sober, my mindset was beginning to change and I felt really excited about stepping forward into an alcohol-free life, however there were still nerves and anxiety that I might fail or struggle with discomfort and cravings.
Sobriety podcasts made me realise that I wasn’t alone on my sober journey, as I listened to some of my favourites I felt really connected to the presenters and their personal stories, tips and strategies for successfully quitting alcohol.

Keepin’ It Friel – Conversations in Recovery
Follow Courtney Friel on Instagram Here
For those that don’t know, Courtney Friel is a News Anchor in the States for KTLA News. She is also 11 years sober. I love that she uses her position to help bring light to sobriety and her podcasts are normally between her, celebrities and media personalities, where she has open and honest conversations with them about their sobriety.
I have found Courtney’s podcasts to be excellent to listen to on a walk or when relaxing at home for light-hearted conversation. However, they also provide an in-depth look into the lives of famous people who struggle with addiction and what they have done, or are doing to transform their lives.
Sober During Crisis
Follow Ang Buxton on Instagram Here
New to my list is the excellent podcasts from Ang Buxton. A comedian who is in recovery and focuses her content on sobriety and Covid-19. I really like her relaxed approach to each podcast I have listened to. They have a conversational nature with featured stories and interviews around the sobriety journey, whilst dealing with the impact of Covid-19. I would highly recommend you checking out her podcasts.
With some excellent reviews so far from other listeners, I would predict that she will gain some fantastic exposure for her content over 2021.
Busy Living Sober
Follow Elizabeth Chance on Instagram Here
Having been in recovery for over a decade, Elizabeth Chance has created her own fantastic series of podcasts with new episodes every week. Her message behind her content is being able to live a sober lifestyle, whilst not having to sacrifice the fun and enjoyment of everyday life. She doesn’t just focus on the individual, but also on the wider family, friends and co-worker networks which I really enjoy. She has been one of my go-to listens every week for 2020 and I will continue to do so for 2021, as the content is new and engaging on every podcast.
Club Soda Podcast
Follow Club Soda on Instagram Here
I have mentioned about the Club Soda Podcasts above, but I had to give them another mention as they continue to release excellent content on a monthly basis. I previously predicted that their podcasts, hosted by Laura Willoughby will become one of the most popular amongst the sober and sober-curious community and they are smashing this prediction with their audio and ‘Quit Lit’.
One of my favourite podcasts each month, I am sure they will continue to be so throughout 2021. If you haven’t listened to their content yet, then I highly recommend that you do if you are interested about learning tips and techniques on socialising sober, through to alcohol-free drinks and smashing sobriety. They do some fantastic work at highlighting alcoholism and help with sobriety, or providing valuable information for anyone who is sober curious.
Love Over Addiction
Follow Love Over Addiction on Instagram Here
The podcasts from Love Over Addiction are a really interesting take, focusing on partners and family members who love someone who has an addiction. For me, it was really impactful to listen to these podcasts to understand better what the people I care about have experienced from living with me as an addict to wine.
Michelle Anderson has received some fantastic reviews for her weekly podcasts and for good reason. I recommend you having a listen to her whether you are trying to cope with a partner who has an addiction, or you are the addict, to understand what the people you care about are going through, so you can see it from the other side.
Sober Speak – Alcoholics Anonymous 12 Step Recovery Podcast
Follow Sober Speak on Instagram Here
If you are a member of my Facebook Community, you will likely know that there are mixed reviews on Alcoholics Anonymous. Some people absolutely love it and have found a real benefit from joining AA, whilst others are not so keen on the underlying Christian message behind the recovery process.
You may not be aware that Sober Speak is a weekly podcast series on AA. The episodes are centred around experiences of AA members and their 12-step recovery process. I would highly recommend this podcast to anyone interested in AA and understanding about recovery. It may not be for everyone, but I always advocate an open mind and you will be able to pick up some fantastic advice and tips on sobriety even if you are not religious.
The truth is, that the above is a snapshot of the podcasts that are available which focus on sober curiosity and sobriety. I hope what you can gather from this is that there are so many resources available to anyone looking for support in audio format from people who have been on the sobriety journey themselves. Podcasts are fantastic for listening to whilst on the move or whether reading is not your thing.
Do you feel like I have missed any podcast or podcast creator in particular? If so, then please share your favourite sobriety podcasts in the comments. I would love to hear them and check them out. I would also love to hear from you if you have listened to any of the above podcasts and what your views on them are.
